Congratulations you’re engaged!! You’ve found the photographer of your dreams and now it’s time for that very first-mile marker in your wedding journey: the ~engagement photos~. Choosing a spot for your engagement photos is one thing you really don’t need to be stressed about, mainly because we help you with this part when you book with us!
Sometimes couples decide to skip engagement photos and that is just fine, but here at Early Night, we include an engagement session in (most) of your packages! Why? Because we love them! But also, it’s a big freaking deal to find the photographer that you can work with, let alone get along with. An engagement session is a low-stress preview of what working with us on your big day will look like. More often than not couples are worried about having their photos taken and how to pose, but we feel that same awkwardness on a personal and spiritual level, which means we’re the literal experts on how to capture you just as you are.
To find the *perfect* spot for your engagement photos, the key is to examine your own life, hobbies, and interests. Not everyone likes the same thing, so you’ll need to figure out what works best for you and your partner. From there, you’ll be able to find a location for your engagement photos that work for you and incorporate your location into the session seamlessly. Here are a few tips to get you started:
We can work with any passion big or small - just talk out loud about the sort of things you love to do as a couple. Some questions to consider: What are your hobbies and interests? Do you both love to travel and explore the outdoors? Are you both into music? Do you both enjoy cooking together? What about visiting breweries? Is there a place you visit often together (think park, coffee, shop, pizzeria, the list goes on…)? One suggestion we have for some couples is to look through their photos of past vacations, discuss the things they love to do most, and revisit that bucket list of places they want to visit.
Your careers play a major role in your relationship! Whatever you may do in your career, you can incorporate that into your session! Maybe you're a chef and we can do an in-home session with cooking involved! Whatever you do - we can work it in if you're leaning that way!
Maybe it’s the coffee shop where you met, your favorite restaurant, or the spot in your home where you feel the strongest connection. Or maybe it’s a place that you’re both passionate about, like your favorite hiking trail, or a spot that signifies a special time in your relationship! When it's important to your relationship, then it’s the perfect location for your engagement photos.
If you're not doing an engagement session in the comfort of your own home, you may want to think about what type of public setting is comfortable for you! For example, if a busy city stresses you out, that’s probably not the place to be. Some questions to consider: Is where you are most comfortable spending time outdoors at your favorite park? Maybe you love the energy of a bustling city and want to spend your day exploring.
What makes you and your partner have fun? Maybe it’s a trip to an amusement park like Disneyland or drinking some brews on the beach! These locations are awesome places to figure out where to take your engagement photos.
